Five centuries of Portuguese tile-making, reimagined for today
Azulejos have shaped Portugal’s streets, churches and homes since the fifteenth century. Their name is often traced to the Arabic al-zulayj — “polished stone” — and their cobalt blue on white glaze became one of the country’s most recognisable art forms.
Bassani’s works with Portuguese artisans who still shape, paint and glaze each tile by hand. We pair that heritage with contemporary colour, scale and finish, so every surface feels authentic, personal and made to last for generations.
Natural clay
Each tile begins with natural clay, pressed and left to dry slowly for a strong, even body.
Hand-painted pattern
Artisans trace and paint every motif with brushes and mineral pigments — no two tiles are identical.
Glazed and kiln-fired
A tin-glaze finish is fired at high temperature, fusing colour and glaze into a durable, luminous surface.
Checked and packed in Portugal
Every tile is inspected by hand, then carefully packed for safe delivery to your home, anywhere in the world.
